Hiraeth Energy, a Welsh developer of utility scale renewable energy projects, today announced that Sonya Bedford MBE is joining the team.
Sonya has a boundless enthusiasm for renewable energy, and demonstrates huge expertise across a range of legal positions, most recently for the legal firm Stephens Scown where she was Head of Renewable Energy for more than a decade.
Her commitment to sustainability is evident in a range of non-executive Directorships she holds, including as a Trustee at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, and a number of community energy organisations. Sonya’s experience in community energy will be invaluable in supporting Hiraeth’s aim of enabling meaningful community ownership of offshore wind projects and retaining value in Wales.
In 2015 Sonya completed a MSc in renewable energy at the Centre for Alternative Technology, augmenting her impressive legal credentials with additional technical insight.
Joseph Kidd, Partner in Hiraeth Energy, said:
“Sonya’s extensive experience across a range of renewable energy, together with her clear commitment to community ownership and engagement, makes her a perfect fit for Hiraeth Energy. We are absolutely delighted to welcome her to the team.”
“I am delighted to have been asked to join the Hiraeth Energy team, where I can not only put my skills to good use but be part of a development team focussed on delivering the renewable energy Wales and the UK needs and at the same time benefitting the local community. I look forward to this next step in my energy journey and being part of an organisation fully committed to changing the future of energy in Wales for the better”
